For the last couple of years, I have been provided with a day release to work with Johnny Romeo and Captivate.

Essentially, on this day we work with various primary schools. There have been two main programs I have been involved with.

1) See Potential

1) Workshops- Johnny and myself ran workshops where students learnt camera/composition basics and how to capture a particular theme that they felt encapsulated their school environment. For example the learning that takes place, technology, community, etc. 

2) Photography Day-At the culmination of these workshops, a professional photographer was sourced and students had the opportunity to work in groups at designated times to direct him on how to capture and frame their nominated shot/theme. They were also given the privilege of using a professional DSLR camera as well as becoming the Artistic Director.

3) Selection Process- This stage varied between schools and is the time when the various photographs were reduced to a specific number. Some schools voted with parents, teachers and the school community. Others had Johnny and myself interview students in order to provide them with the tools they needed to come to conclusions about their most successful photographs. The designated number of photos were selected.

4) Billboards- Once the selected photos were organised. We outsourced a company to blow them up to billboard size and position them in previously discussed locations around the school grounds. Students then had a visual reminder of themes such as sharing, good learning, using technology effectively. It also doubles as a great showcase of the school!
